Musicology’s systems get as close to this ideal as is possible by using equipment that is inherently simple and non-invasive to that fragile signal. We start with the loudspeakers – all Zu models use a highly developed full range driver to handle 95% of the audio bandwidth. No crossover delivers high efficiency, no phase anomalies and a very benign load for an amplifier (two watts anyone?). So the amplification we use can be similarly simple and not muscle-bound in power – we use output-transformerless (OTL) valve amplifiers from Atmasphere to great effect (you need to hear what a valve can do when unfettered by transformers) and these have recently been joined by the unique Vacuum State valve amplifiers which feature Allen Wright’s patented differential circuits. Feeding the music through this impeccable path we rely on Ed Meitner’s wonderful EMM Labs digital sources and for analogue, the excellent range of turntables from Scheu Analog in Germany.
